YouTube's New Rulebook for AI Practices

Amidst this ever-changing terrain of content creation, YouTube has rolled out a thoughtful set of guidelines addressing AI-generated content and its impact on community well-being. Through the guidelines, they aim to emphasise the importance of fostering a positive online space and taking a stand against misleading content manipulated through technology. These guidelines will empower viewers with transparency, letting them know when they’re watching AI generated with a label stating “altered or synthetic content” and requiring mandatory disclosure of any alterations made using AI tools or technologies. This move reflects Youtube’s commitment to honesty especially in content touching on sensitive topics like public health, conflicts, elections, and others.

To further strengthen these policies, the latest update of YouTube has also stated that content produced by any of YouTube’s inbuilt AI tools, like Dream Screen, will be clearly marked as generated by AI. The latest update on AI also introduces measures to protect individuals’ rights, allowing for the removal of any kind of morphed or AI-generated content that replicates someone’s likeness or voice without their consent. In tandem,  music partners or distributors can also request the removal of AI-generated music that’s been copied.
